How to Enjoy Music in Prague More? Try Mindfulness

What does mindfulness have to do with enjoying music in Prague more? I believe it is the key to enjoying life, and things in it, better. And that goes for music too.

I love to take a breather, let go of all tasks, pick up a record, play it on my gramophone, and sit in a chair with the album cover and just listen.

In my previous post Why I Cut Me Some Slack and Breath Better Now I shared why and how I benefit from mindfulness, check it out for more context or inspiration.

Next Blog’s Topic: Music in Prague

There are so many talented people in Prague, whose way to connect with their community is through music. And we deserve to enjoy their songs. So I’d like to dedicate the next topic on the blog to music in Prague.

  • What are the easiest ways to find music in Prague?
  • Who are some of the talented but lesser-known Prague based musicians?
  • What are some of the best Prague music discoveries?

I will bring you answers in my interview with Zack Slouka, the creator of Sangwich Sessions, a YouTube channel introducing Prague based musicians.

Practice Mindfulness with Music in Prague

I’ve got for you my three favorite songs of this month. The authors are Prague based musicians reflecting in real-time or retrospectively on the pandemics.

The next step is up to you. I encourage you to cut yourself some slack today. Find a well deserved time for yourself, let the world just be for a moment, sit in a comfy chair, or wherever is nice for you. Listen, watch the videos, read the lyrics. Nothing more and nothing less. Enjoy!

Noah Tortelli – Masks

“It is a song where past meets present. Written back in 2012, now it sounds like an unintentional omen of times yet to come.”

Our masks bring us together

we take them off with the changing weather

but love’s what keeps the bond strong

even when it seems so wrong

Maturity means recognizing

the masks we wear

take ’em off by analyzing

every sensation we bear

Cough away every thought it is an illness

Let the cold get cool then hot

coldness is a step away from madness

Our masks brought sadness

they’re a defense but deceiving

Making us tense with emptiness

avoiding pain, not relieving

I am not my mask

but who else should I ask?

The answer lies in the body

don’t ask the mind or anybody

Liberty means recognizing

the masks we wear

take ’em off by feeling

every sensation we bear

Cough away some thoughts

they are an illness

Let the cold get cool then hot

coldness is a step away from madness

Our masks brought sadness

they’re a defense but deceiving

Making us tense with emptiness

avoiding pain, not relieving

Like Russian dolls

under our masks we stand tall

and we overcome the wall

Our masks bring us together

we take them off like changing feathers

but love’s what keeping the bonds strong

even if it’s the same old song

Dashi ft. Geoff Tyson – Ordinary Things

“Quarantine day 5 / covid. We’re still at home. The only social activity is taking my dog for a walk and avoiding any contact with people. Days are more fun with friends around but if these are the ordinary things I thought of when I was writing the song, then I feel safe.”

Baby, I know it’s been a while

Instead of sharing, I run in circles

Running around, around, around

Tell me where to take my heart for a walk

I need to find a temporary shelter

For the times when mind grows dark

Somewhere far, far from ordinary things

A place with only you and me

Far, far from ordinary things

Where it feels like a peaceful memory

I know where to take our hearts for a walk

We’re gonna find some temporary shelter

For the times when nights grow dark

Somewhere far, far from ordinary things

A place with only you and me

Far, far from ordinary things

Where it feels like a peaceful memory

One day we’ll be floating on our way back home

Through the warm dark night

Talking about your lost and found

And I’ll share mine

Far, far from ordinary things

A place with only you and me

Far, far from ordinary things

Where it feels like a peaceful memory

Heyme – Another Day Gone

Heyme recorded this song in May 2020.

Walking down an empty road

Lights are off and I’m all alone

The evening has been long and loud

With many things to think about

I had some drinks and smoked some too

Perhaps a bit too much, that’s true

Tomorrow I’ll have to pay my dues

I guess that’s what you call the blues

Life’s too short for days like these

The daily struggle to make ends meet

I’m trying real hard to be good

But am hardly ever understood

Wasted wounded tired torn

No success in trying to score

So here I am walking home alone

Another day done, another day gone

All evening tried to pick a fight

I said many a thing that were not nice

Cause  the pain I feel, the hurt inside

Makes me feel like I’m alive

Don’t think I’ll ever get used to this

The daily pain, the lies and cheats

I numb myself with booze and pills

Just so I can deal with this

Another day done, another day gone

Lights are off, the music’s done

Another day done, another day gone

All people left, I’m all alone

Another day done, another day gone

Just want to play the saxophone

Another day done, another day gone

Wasted wounded tired torn

Another day done, another day gone
