10 Stories That Made My Day, April Edition
What’s one nice thing someone did for you, told you or said about you today? Here are another 10 stories from the project Made My Day, which you shared with me.
#1 Klez
“The lady at the potraviny where I go everyday is usually not looking at me or even saying ‘dobrý den,’ but a couple of days ago, I went there as usual, and she smiled and looked at me. And when I was leaving, she called me, so I returned to the counter, and she simply gave me a small chocolate. It hadn’t happened to me since I was a kid. That’s it, a simple gesture of goodwill toward another human being. Simple things make life smoother. Finally, my neighbors put a small plastic bag on the handle of my door. Inside? A homemade mask and a few lines dropped on a piece of paper: ‘Hi Klez, try to connect to this internet if you need : P.S. Here is a face mask, it’s 100% cotton. Aleš and Anna’.”

“I decided to go for a short walk and grab a couple of supplies during the time of day it is allowed. I went to get an excellent coffee to go from a nice lady in town. And I decided to sit near the dock since nobody was around to finish my coffee. It was closed, but the nice man from the restaurant over invited me to sit down on his deck without insisting that I buy anything. He let me sit for a few moments so I could enjoy my cappuccino in peace. He also told me he is happy to help me with whatever I need during my stay in San Pedro. I also arrived home to a plate of tamales and a new non disposable mask from my wonderful hosts here.”

#3 Noah
“My neighbor sewed 2 masks for me to go to the supermarket! So sweet! And also she made cake for us. Super sweet.”

“I have a favourite cashier. She makes my day every time. Her name is Hana, she is an old lady and the first thing you notice are her long crooked fingers – like a witch. She wears this fact proudly by having brightly colored fingernails that she changes every so often. Just to show she don’t give a damn. She is the kindest person I met in a normal shop in this country. Every time we pass by her supermarket (on our way from metro) she asks us about news in our life. These are short conversations less than a minute, but next time she remebers what we told her and is always interested in new details.
She keeps her optimism even during the virus outbreak, and today I saw her selling beers to a sketchy dude even though he did not have enough change for the purchase. Thanks Hana for being so kind to this world, we often do not deserve you. I can just wish more people in jobs that have direct contact with customers were like you.”
#5 Klára
“I ordered some beer through Zachran pivo from a small brewery Zloun in Louny, in order to support small businesses. I picked it up with no expectations. And the beer is really good!!! Thanks for skilled people, who make such good stuff :)”
#6 Káťa and Harry
“Once upon a time, far far away, at the glorious kingdom known as Praha-Háje, lived King Chickenhead the First with his Queen, her highness Turkeybutt. There were difficult times back then. The kingdom was bothered with this monster, Covid 19. One sunny day, their owl brought them an invitation to a ball. The ball was a tribute to Princess Unipony’s birthday from crazy land called Bohnice. To avoid the horrible terrible creature, everyone used their magical powers and applied Skype spell. Of course, participants had to wear special dress code, even our main heros.
Those fantastic robes inspired Princess Unipony, so she announced a contest. King Chickenhead and his Queen Turkeybutt were so lucky and won the competition! Their prize was amazing – a bottle of wine and food with an unusual name ‘šuši’. It made their day. They ate it all, they drank it all, and then they lived happily fat-ily ever after on their thrones.”
#7 Šárka
“Today, I woke up hearing noise as a space shuttle starts. I live in the middle of nowhere, so I was quite surprised. I got up, looked out and I saw a huge excavator. So I ran to the driver to ask what is going on? I have to admit, I was slightly worried about new “tangible” quarantine provisions. But the truth is that after many years dealing with mud, is a new surface on our path being made. I am really excited! I will finally wear shoes like a lady!”
#8 Matt
“The kind people at Jama, who will still sell me beer and food (for take away) even when I am wearing such a ridiculous mask. A big thank you to them, and all the people working in my local supermarkets. Sauve qui pour ! 🙂 (That’s Franglais for ‘save the bartenders’)”
If you’re also lover of the legendary Jáma, you can purchase a voucher for consumption to support them. Check it out at Zachran hospodu.
#9 Jirka & Asa
“I decided to videocall my friend Asa and we agreed on doing an intergalactical (intercontinental) jam session between Czech Republic and New Zealand. It was fun!”
#10 Tina
“My boyfriend Dan and his parents made me happy by helping me sew masks. ‘Cause I wanted to sew some for the public – for “rouškovník” (=mask-tree)… So we’ve created a family manufacture and everyone has joined! Especially Dan – see the photo. ❤️”
