Thannos’ Love & Other Monsters: The Soundtrack of Starting Over in Prague

In the diverse world of modern music, few artists stitch together the threads of personal history and raw emotion as naturally as Thannos. Emerging from the vibrant chaos of Athens, he shapes a unique sound that reflects his life’s twists and turns. His music—a gritty mix of indie rock peppered with elements of punk and Americana—connects with anyone who’s ever felt out of place.

Step into Thannos’ universe, where every note resonates deeply with the souls of wanderers, dreamers, and the resilient.

The Sounds of Youth: Pink Floyd and Punk Rock

As Thannos sits down to share his journey, he takes us back to Athens, where he grew up surrounded by the city’s lively mix of old traditions and new ideas. “It was my mom, who introduced me to good music,” Thannos remembers. “I had my first Pink Floyd record when I was five. It kind of traumatized me, in a good way,” he laughs.

During his teens, he discovered punk and indie music. “It showed me that there’s more than one way of doing things and that you don’t need to have a perfect voice and perfect guitar skills. You can just be yourself, have emotions and find a way to communicate that.”

Thannos’ early music career blossomed in Athens, where he first wrote songs, met his producer, and formed his initial band. “It’s a beautiful city. Sometimes, it’s dark, it’s twisted, it’s dangerous… But eventually, I felt like I got everything I needed from there.”

Expanding Horizons: Thannos’ Creative Evolution

Thannos left Athens to grow as an artist. “I toured Scandinavia with my first album. Nothing too fancy, but people were digging my music. It was more than a year that I was zigzagging around Europe to play shows and connect with fans till I found Prague.”

Drawn in by the city’s vibrant cultural scene, he soon made Prague his new home and the epicenter of his music career. As he settled into this new chapter, the world began to change dramatically. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic was not only a global crisis but a personal challenge that tested his adaptability.

This period forced an introspection of his art and personal identity. “I built the first stages of my career completely the old-fashioned way: concerts, word of mouth, it was all about the stage. I was kind of weak in social media and that crippled my career completely during COVID.”

With no live shows and the world in lockdown, Thannos didn’t give up. He found a job in a warehouse to support himself. “That was a very humbling experience that also influenced my latest album.”

Resilience in Isolation: Musical Rebirth

Thannos Love & Other Monsters

“After some time, I left everything and I went to the south of France to be with my then girlfriend,” he recalls. Thannos settled into a peaceful life at old hippie resorts in the mountains, living simply in the countryside and playing occasional concerts for local communities.

“In those quiet moments, away from the chaos, I composed some of my deepest work,” he notes. Returning to Prague post-lockdown, he was met with an overwhelming response that affirmed his new musical direction.

His latest album, Love & Other Monsters, produced by Dimitris Morfeas Spanos (MadArt) in collaboration with Marley Wildthing—who often performs live with Thannos—tells a story of personal turmoil, including a major breakup, and a fresh start in Prague, exploring themes of love, loss, and new beginnings.

Each track is a reflection of his path through the ups and downs, the transient and the enduring, making the listening experience deeply personal and profoundly human. “People who connect with my music are usually those who feel things quite intensely. I’m weird, so I guess the people I attract are also kind of weird in their own way,” he smiles.
